Frequently asked questions
How does scoring work on the watch?
Your team is always the bottom row, the near side of the net, whoever is serving. Turn the Digital Crown down, toward your wrist to give your team the point; turn it up, away from your wrist to give the other team the point. You will feel a tick as the crown takes up tension, then a pop as the point lands.
You can also double-tap a team's row to give that team the point.
A single tap never scores, and swipes never score, so a brush against the screen between rallies changes nothing.
I gave the wrong team the point. How do I fix it?
Undo: swipe the score toward the outer edge of the watch (away from your body). The last point is taken back and the phone says "undone". You can undo more than once.
Correct: swipe from one team's score to the other's. The last point moves to the other team in one step.
Both are recorded in the match, so the history on your phone stays truthful.
How does the phone speak the calls?
Every point, game and set the watch records is announced by your iPhone in the voice you pick in Settings. The phone can be unlocked on a bench or locked in your pocket; it keeps announcing either way while the glassplay app is running, in the foreground or the background.
A Bluetooth speaker works: pair it with the phone as usual and the calls come through it. Keep the phone within normal Bluetooth range of the watch (about ten metres on an open court) for calls to land instantly.
The watch and the phone show different scores. Which is right?
The phone is the record. The watch keeps scoring on its own whenever the phone is out of reach or the app is closed, and sends everything across the moment the link comes back. The phone then announces where the match stands with a single catch-up call rather than replaying every point.
If they still disagree after a few seconds in range, open the glassplay app on the phone and raise the watch; both will settle on the phone's version. Nothing scored on either device is thrown away.
I wear my watch on the right wrist. Do I need to change anything?
No. glassplay reads your watch's orientation setting (Watch app on iPhone → General → Watch Orientation) and mirrors the score screen so the undo edge and the crown still fall where your hand expects them. If you have the crown on the left side, the crown direction is corrected automatically too.
If the crown direction still feels backwards, turn on Invert crown in the watch app's Settings.
How much battery does a match use?
glassplay runs a workout session during play to keep the watch awake and the crown live. Expect a 90-minute match to use under 25% of the watch battery on a recent Apple Watch. The phone uses very little; it is mostly waiting to speak.
Ending the match on the watch ends the workout. The match is then saved to Apple Health with your heart rate and active energy.
Why does glassplay ask for Apple Health access?
The workout session that keeps the watch awake is an Apple Health feature, and the match is saved to Health as a workout at the end. glassplay reads nothing back from Health and sends nothing anywhere. Details are in the privacy policy.
How do I report a problem?
Email [email protected]. Please include:
- the build number shown at the bottom of Settings in the phone app (and on the watch's Settings screen),
- your iPhone and Apple Watch models and their iOS and watchOS versions,
- what you did, what you expected and what happened instead, and roughly when, so we can match it to the diagnostics log on your device if you choose to send it.
